Sungai Kandis assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei dies

SHAH ALAM, July 2 (Bernama) -- Sungai Kandis Assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, 50, died of lymphoma cancer at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre at 11.10 am today.

Political Secretary to the Selangor Menteri Besar, Borhan Aman Shah said preparations for the burial would be made at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, here after arrangements had been completed at the hospital.

"His remains would be laid to rest at the Section 21 Muslim Burial Ground, here after the Asar prayers," he said in a statement, today.

In the 14th General Election on May 9, Shuhaimi, who was also the former Political Secretary to former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, had won with a majority of 12,480 votes in the four-cornered contest against the candidates from BN, PAS and PRM.

Shuhaimi, 50, however, was not present at the swearing-in ceremony at the First Meeting of the First Term of the 14th State Legislative Assembly Sitting, here on June 26 recently due to health factor.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said in a statement that Mat Shuhaimi, who was the Sri Muda (now Sungai Kandis) Assemblyman from the PKR for two terms, was highly committed, responsible and popular with the people and friends.

He said Mat Shuhaimi was also his close friend and political colleague and his passing was a major loss to the Selangor government as well as the PKR.

"His deeds and sacrifices to the people and Selangor state were considerable and invaluable. May Allah bless him and repay his kindness.

"I wish to record my condolences to his family on his demise and I pray that his family members are given the courage and strength to face the trials and tribulations ahead," he said.
