Penang-born NZ mayor to donate to THM

  • "The donation is a powerful and symbolic show of support for the PH government's commitment towards democratic rule of law and pledge against racial politics and corruption."

PETALING JAYA, June 8 (MySinchew) -- K. Gurunathan, the Penang-born mayor of Kapiti Coast in New Zealand, urges the Malaysian government to arrange for its foreign diplomatic offices worldwide to facilitate donations towards Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

"I see the personal financial donation not as a small contribution towards Malaysia's debt burden but more as a powerful and symbolic show of support for the commitment of the Pakatan Harapan government towards the democratic rule of law and their pledge against racial politics and corruption," Gurunathan said in a statement today.

He also said he would be making a NZ$1,000 (RM2,800) donation at the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington next week.

There are currently 18,000 Malaysians in New Zealand and over a million others all over the world.
