Perak facing IS threats during Merdeka

IPOH, Aug 15 (MySinchew) -- Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said according to police investigation, the state of Perak was facing IS terrorist threats especially during the upcoming National Day celebrations.

He said the IS threats were indeed existent and that the police were conducting constant patrols and surveillance to ensure public safety.

"The police have taken the preventive measures by reinforcing patrols at possible targets such as banks, religious sites and even Merdeka celebration venues."

So far about 300 people involved in the IS group have been detained in the country, including some from Perak.

"18 Perakians have so far been detained this year for their involvement in IS activities," he added.
