  • The new tax is expected to bring additional RM210 million tax revenue to the government every year.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (MySinchew) -- Tourism and culture minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said tourism tax would be implemented with effect from September 1.

He expected the new tax to bring additional RM210 million tax revenue to the government every year.

Nazri said in a press conference today that Malaysian citizens and permanent residents would be exempted from paying tourism tax, while foreigners must pay RM10 per room per night at any hotel or accommodation irrespective of star rating.

Homestays, rural homestays, establishments run by federal or state statutory bodies for training, education or charity purposes and non-commercial accommodation are exempted from tourism tax.
