PETALING JAYA, June 21 (Sin Chew Daily) -- Outgoing Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar felt that the appointment of former Felda Global Ventures (FGV) chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad as SPAD acting chairman would put the government in yet another controversy.

"I was shocked, just like anyone else."

He told Sin Chew Daily it was the prime minister's prerogative to appoint Isa, adding that the prime minister must have taken into consideration all the factors and public reactions before making the announcement.

"The prime minster is a very experienced political leader. The appointment was made because he thought Isa was the best person for the job.

"I wish Isa and the government all the best because this is not what we can comment.

"This is the prime minister's prerogative. He doesn't have to consult any minister. I myself was also appointed by him."

However, Syed Hamid felt that it was necessary for the prime minister to answer to the queries since there was controversy.

"We need to be transparent so that the public will be happy with the government's appointment and that there will be no controversy."
