Tourism tax: the spat goes on

  • "He should not try to advise a senior minister.. He is from East Malaysia, so he is not neutral."

PETALING JAYA, June 13 (Sin Chew Daily) -- Federal ministers from East Malaysia defended Sarawak minister of tourism, art, culture, youth and sports Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Among them are minister in the prime minster's department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and works minister cum PBB Youth chairman Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

Abdul Rahman tweeted that while Karim might be new as a state minister, he was nevertheless a very seasoned Sarawak politician.

He felt that tourism and culture minister Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz could have been more accommodative when dealing with questions and concerns from East Malaysian leaders.

Nazri reacted by calling Abdul Rahman a "new and inexperienced" minister who should not interfere in his spat with Karim.

"He should not try to advise a senior minister, and I don't need his help.

"Anyway, he is from East Malaysia, so he is not neutral."

Meanwhile, Sarawak BN Backbenchers Club said in a statement that Nazri's remarks would not solve the problem but would only reflect his lack of BN spirit.

Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) also accused Nazri of being arrogant on this matter.
