KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (MySinchew) -- IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police received tips that non-governmental organization Selangor Community Awareness Association (EMPOWER), of which Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah had been an executive director, had received financial assistance from Open Society Foundations (OSF) of George Soros.
Khalid said the police were also monitoring other NGOs and that he did not rule out the possibility more people would be detained to assist in the investigation.
"There are lawyers in Bersih 2.0 and EMPOWER. How do they not know about OSF's background?"
Khalid also said the police might arrest Maria Chin again to assist in investigation if necessary.
As for the 12 individuals involved in a scuffle in the Parliament grounds, Khalid said they were released after one day because their detention was no longer needed for the investigation.
However, he insisted that the release of Maria Chin did not mean the investigation on her had been concluded, and that it was wrong for her to claim that the police would no longer investigate her.
